Classic Readers

Classic Readers is a series that introduces middle school and older students to the culture and history of the English-speaking world through a collection of classic stories, poems, legends and plays. The beautiful illustrations and student-friendly layout make the Readers series easy to follow. The selections are developed sequentially, with each two-page episode having a corresponding page of activities to help students with comprehension and language. Each Reader also includes a biography of the author, a brief summary of the plot, character descriptions and pictures for the more challenging vocabulary in the story.

Classic Readers are also ideal for home or holiday study. The accompanying Activity Book and Audio CD offers a fully dramatised recording of the story and also includes answers to the exercises in the activities section. The CDs are versatile for classroom or home study, since they can be used on CD players or in computer systems.

Classic Readers Activity Book is a complementary series to the Classic Readers graded reading titles. The activity book contains a variety of exercises and activities that support and extend the skills learned in the reading book. The activity book provides readers with a supplementary tool to empower the reader to participate more effectively in the reading process.

The Classic Readers Activity Book includes exercises that challenge students in the following areas:

- Vocabulary

- Every chapter includes vocabulary and  definitions, followed by exercises that reinforce comprehension of the new words.

- Comprehension

- These activities measure what the student has read and absorbed in the information or material in the chapter.

- Analytical Reasoning

- These activities include thought-provoking questions that make the student think and reason and then give well-thought-out answers that authenticate the student’s comprehension of the chapter.

- Discussion

- Many exercises contain an open-ended question that elicits discussion about topics raised in the chapter.
